Chronology of Clashes of CSOs in Karawang, West Java

Riots involving two mass organizations or mass organizations broke around the area Karawang, West Java on Wednesday (24/11) afternoon. The incident was caught on camera and spread across several social media platforms.

The Head of Public Relations of the Karawang Police, Ipda Richie, said that the incident was purely a case of vandalism and an attack on a member of the Indonesian Lower Society Movement (GMBI) NGO who passed by.

“So the chronology of the destruction and attack on four-wheeled vehicles GMBI NGOs on the West Karawang interchange road,” Richie said when confirmed, Wednesday (24/11).

From a number of videos circulating, a group of people are seen raging and destroying a car on the highway.

Seen, there were a number of police officers who tried to stop the vandalism but could not because there were too many raging crowds.

“At around 11.45 WIB there was a GMBI member from Central Java who entered the wrong way into Karawang City and met another NGO on the interchange road,” he explained.

Richie said the destruction began when there was a demonstration to convey aspirations to PT Ichi Karawang by GMBI. Initially, the demonstration was able to be arrested by the police, but the riots were unstoppable some time later.

Until now, he said, the police were still investigating the vandalism.

“Members of the Karawang Police and the Chief of the Resort Police are still in the field investigating the case,” he said.
