A Chinese woman surnamed Ling posted a video online asking for help on March 10, saying that while taking a private taxi in Aba, Sichuan, she accidentally left her iPhone in the car. Although the other party returned the phone after calling the police, someone had secretly set a password on the Apple phone that originally did not have a power-on password. She said that she could not bypass the password to boot, but was unwilling to restore the factory settings because it contained “videos and photos of her deceased boyfriend.”

Ms. Ling said that she took a private taxi in Aba, Sichuan. When she got off the car, she left her mobile phone on the center console of the vehicle. Through positioning, she found that the mobile phone had been turned off offline. She was worried that the driver had stolen her mobile phone, so she chose to call the police. Although the other party returned the phone after calling the police, a power-on password was added to the phone. “There are photos and videos of my deceased boyfriend on the phone. If you enter an incorrect password ten times on your Apple phone, you can only flash it, which will cause some data to be lost. This is equivalent to killing me.”

After the incident, Ms. Ling contacted the driver many times for several days, hoping to tell her the password, but the driver never acknowledged it. She said helplessly: “The matter is of a blackmail nature. I called the police to alert the snake.” She also said: “Their extortion behavior has not yet started, so the police have no evidence to convict.”

In the video, Ms. Ling posted multiple photos, including alarm records, transfer records to the driver after getting her phone back, and chat records. In the screenshot of the chat with the driver, Ms. Ling mentioned that there was only one last chance for trial and error, and she hoped that the other party could inform her. The message sent in lost mode mentioned that there were videos and photos of the deceased boyfriend on the phone, and he hoped that the other party would return them to him.
