It is understood that the group of victims agreed to meet at the hotel where the incident took place and that they discussed the need to use currency in Thailand. The victim then called the Lao woman that just eight minutes after she arrived at the room, three suspects entered the hotel, claiming to be police officers and saying that the victim had committed a crime.

Released after transferring 480,000 yuan

According to surveillance footage, criminal gangs arrested Chinese tourists and took them to a remote location in a car parked outside the hotel. On the way, members of the criminal group tried to threaten Chinese tourists to transfer money to specified accounts. Fearing arrest, the kidnapped Chinese tourists contacted their Chinese friends in Cambodia and transferred 2.5 million baht (about 480,000 yuan) to a Chinese citizen’s account in the criminal group, and were later released. The Chinese tourists who were kidnapped for ransom went to the police station to report the crime the next day.

Thai police questioned the Chinese tourist victims and issued arrest warrants for those involved on May 3. Surveillance video showed that there were 11 people in the criminal group, who used 4 cars to kidnap 5 Chinese tourists. It is worth noting that the gang includes current and former Thai police officers. Police have arrested 7 suspects involved in the case, 3 suspects are still being pursued, and the suspect’s identity has not yet been confirmed. The police have recovered some of the money, but the remaining money is still being sought.
