China-US Relations: Achieving Agreements with Taiwan as a Stumbling Block – Vitaly Portnikov’s Insights

Journalist Vitaly Portnikov explained that the PRC and the United States can reach agreements, but under certain conditions.

It is only at first glance that the conclusion of any agreements between China and the United States is impossible, but in fact this task is quite achievable, said Vitaly Portnikov. At the same time, he noted: “China will always insist that it has rights to Taiwan and, most importantly, the United States must be the guarantor that no one in Taiwan will talk about independence from China, that there can be a separate state on the island.”.

The TV presenter asked his interlocutor what agreements could be reached between the United States and China if Taiwan remains a stumbling block between them. Vitaly Portnikov voiced his point of view on this issue in response: “Both countries must agree that Taiwan cannot be integrated into the PRC by military means and find a model for peaceful integration.”.

At the same time, the publicist emphasized that the head of China can set certain conditions when concluding agreements with the United States: “Xi Jinping may demand that Biden find a model for peaceful integration of Taiwan following the Hong Kong model, and Biden will say that it is the right of the people of Taiwan to decide whether to integrate with China or wait until China itself becomes a democratic state.”.

Earlier, Portnikov warned that strikes on Russian territory would cause “the opposite effect.”

Portnikov also explained why Kolomoisky found himself in a stalemate and how he can get out of it.

Let us remind you that Portnikov revealed Putin’s real goals for the war in Ukraine.
