An ‘effective’ vaccine against the coronavirus has been developed in China. It has been tested and approved and is now being applied to humans.
The Beijing Ministry of Defense has announced that the vaccine was developed under the direction of epidemiologist Chen Wei.
Mass production
The defense ministry describes it as “safe and effective” and preparations are already underway for its mass production, according to Spanish news agency Europa Press.
In February, Chinese authorities said they expect to start trying a vaccine in humans in April. In several countries, progress is being reported in the development of a vaccine, but it may take months to eventually become available to many patients.
Busy
Numerous scientists, educational institutions and companies are the first to hope to come up with a useful medicine. In China alone, work is underway on at least nine possible vaccines. A concerned Chinese scientist, Wang Junzhi, said to The South China Morning Post that they will be “no slower than other countries” when making a vaccine.
Still, it’s not the first time a corona vaccine has been tested on humans. In the United States, four healthy volunteers received an initial dose of the experimental vaccine on Monday. This vaccine was developed by American scientists after the outbreak of COVID-19 in China.
