China Ready to Intervene in Myanmar!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Chinese government has finally taken a stand regarding the hot situation that is happening in Myanmar. It is hoped that this will be able to reduce the tension between the parties in the country and there will be no additional casualties.

This was expressed by the top diplomat of the Chinese government, Wang Yi, as quoted by Reuters, Sunday (7/3/2021).

Myanmar has been in turmoil since a February 1 coup that ousted civilian leader Suu Kyi from power and sparked a mass uprising against the military junta regime.

Last Wednesday was the deadliest day so far, with the United Nations saying at least 38 people were shot dead as security forces fired into the crowd, shooting several protesters in the head.

The UN rights office also says it has verified at least 54 deaths since the coup, although the true number could be much higher, and more than 1,700 people have been detained.

Meanwhile, scores of Myanmar nationals are on the border with India waiting to join some 50 others who have crossed the border to escape the chaos of the country’s coup.

Many countries, including the United States (US) had asked the Chinese government to intervene. This is expected given the close relationship between the two countries.

China … is willing to contact and communicate with all parties on the basis of respecting Myanmar’s sovereignty and the wishes of the people, so as to play a constructive role in defusing tensions,” Wang told a news conference.

Wang also wanted to ensure that the relationship between China and Myanmar remains strong.

“No matter how the situation in Myanmar changes, China’s determination to promote China-Myanmar relations will not waver, and China’s direction to promote China-Myanmar friendly cooperation will not change,” Wang said.
