China has invaded Taiwan’s air defense zone with eight fighters

Ministry of Defense of Taiwan announces new Chinese air force invasion of air defense identification zone on the island, composed of eight fighter jets and two other aircraft, one of whom flew through the strategic channel Bashi, Reuters reported.

Taiwan, to which China has territorial claims, has complained in recent months of repeated Chinese air force missions near the island, concentrated in the southwestern part of its air defense zone near the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands.

Late last month, Taiwan announced that 20 Chinese planes had been involved in such an invasion.

In the latest incident, Taiwan’s defense ministry said they were involved four Chinese J-16 and four J-10 fighters, as well as an early warning aircraft and an anti-submarine aircraft, the last of which flew to southern Taiwan via the Bashi Canal, which connects the Pacific Ocean with the South China Sea.

The Taiwan Air Force has sent a combat air patrol and is warned Chinese planes to move away, added the department.

So far, the Chinese Ministry of Defense has not commented, but the flights coincided with other Chinese military activities to northern Taiwan.

Japan’s Defense Ministry said yesterday that the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning, accompanied by five escort ships, had crossed the Miyako Strait on its way to the Pacific Ocean.

Although China’s air force has not flown over Taiwan itself, flights have increased financial and physical pressure on the island’s air force to ensure that its aircraft are ready at all times for what security officials describe as “war of attrition“.

China views democratic Taiwan as its territory and has never given up on using force to bring the island under its control.

Although Taiwan’s air force is well trained, it is tiny compared to China’s.
