China Has Captured the Brightest Star Explosion in the Universe

LONDON Fast Radio Burst ( FRB) is the brightest stellar explosion in the universe and releases nearly the same amount of energy that the sun emits throughout the year in just one millisecond (thousandth of a second).

Recently, the Chinese radio telescope, FAST, detected the first continuously active FRB and the results were published in the international academic journal ‘Nature’ today.

This success marks FAST’s discovery of the only repeating FRB that is continuously active to date, through the large project Commensal Radio Astronomy Rapid Survey (CRAFTS).

Understandably, research on FRBs did not take long, with the existence of such a natural phenomenon being confirmed for the first time in 2007, and the first FRB repeating the boom was discovered in 2016.

According to researcher from the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Di, FRB is known as the most important discovery in astronomy after the detection of gravitational waves.

“The findings of the first continuously active FRB prove that China has reached the most advanced stage in this new sector,”

FRB will help build a picture of the evolutionary process of this mysterious phenomenon,” he said
