“Buyers, on behalf of Chinese companies, are increasingly approaching the European market to buy wood raw material here. China is a major consumer of wood raw materials,” says Filip De Jaeger of Fedustria. “In Belgium too, in our country it concerns hardwood, such as beech and oak,” De Jaeger adds.
According to the CEO of Fedustria, about 40 percent of the round wood is exported, “largely to China”. It has consequences for pricing in our country. “Chinese buyers can pay higher prices than local Belgian buyers”.
