Child thrown by Tate Modern: High penalty for perpetrator – panorama

The then 17-year-old had pushed a boy off a platform on the tenth floor of the museum. The judge believes the crime cannot be explained by his autism.

A mentally ill Brit who has thrown a child from the tenth floor of the Tate Modern museum has to go to prison for at least 15 years. That was decided by a court in London on Friday. The then 17-year-old perpetrator had toppled the boy from a museum viewing platform last August. The child survived the 30-meter fall with the most serious injuries.

The youngster stated that the motive was that he wanted to appear on the television news. Investigators found that before he did what he did, he searched the Internet for methods of killing someone. The adolescent who was diagnosed with autism as a child was known to be violent. He was looked after in a special facility, but was allowed to leave the house for a few hours.

The victim’s fear and terror for the parents are hard to imagine, Justice Justice McGowan said. “They were planning to kill someone that day – and you almost killed the six-year-old boy,” she said to the 18-year-old, who was video-linked. Autism could not explain his deed. The child was an accident victim.

The now seven-year-old from France, who was on holiday in England with his parents, survived with the most serious injuries. He hit a terrace on the fifth floor. The boy suffered broken bones in the spine, arms and legs, as well as cerebral hemorrhage. On a donation page, his parents report little progress in recovery.

At the time of the fact, there were thousands of visitors to the Tate Modern. It is one of the largest museums of contemporary art in the world. The museum is housed in a former power station on the Thames.
