The big grab started after a cash truck door flew open near San Diego around 9:15 a.m. Several bags of $1 and $20 bills broke open. The money ended up on the highway.

Videos posted on social media show people running across the roadway, scooping up the cash and even throwing handfuls of dollars in the air to celebrate.

tracking down thieves
Police are calling on everyone to return the picked up notes and warn that the video footage is being used to track down thieves. “It’s better to be honest than to wait for us to track them down and knock on their door,” police said at a press conference.
At least 12 people handed in the money after that call. The two detainees are a man and woman who had collected money and accidentally locked themselves outside their car.
