Champions League: Historic Elfer Festival between Seville and Salzburg ends 1-1 – Bundesliga

Of the FC Salzburg scored a point against group favorites Sevilla FC at the start of the Champions League group stage. An intense and historic game (4 penalties in one half) ended 1: 1. Luka Sucic had given the Bulls the lead with a penalty before Ivan Rakitic equalized shortly before the break – also with a penalty.

Penalty record in Seville – Salzburg misses twice

The first half was really tough, but one after the other: After a little more than ten minutes there was the first of a total of four (!) Penalties in the first 45 minutes. Adeyemi, who will continue to play an important role in the rest of the game, was fouled on the edge of the box by Diego Carlos. Referee Kulbakov initially decided on a free kick before the VAR had correctly given a penalty. Adeyemi took responsibility, but missed (13th).

But things continued: after 20 minutes, Adeyemi was fouled again in the penalty area – this time completely unnecessarily by Navas. After a thoroughly intense discussion between Adeyemi and Sucic, the Croatian stepped up and transformed for sure. This was followed by intense and provocative jubilation in front of the home fans – 0: 1 (21st).

The game remained intense and after 36 minutes there was even the third penalty for the guests after a foul by Bono on Adeyemi. Sucic started again, but this time the Croat showed his nerve and slammed the ball against the pole. Shortly before the break, referee Kulbakov even pointed to the point a fourth time. This time, however, in the bulls’ penalty area after Wöber fouled En-Nesyri. Ivan Rakitic scored confidently – 1: 1 (42nd). Incidentally, there have never been four penalties in one half in the Champions League.

Salzburg cannot convert excess numbers into victory

And even after switching sides, things went well in the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Seville striker flew five minutes after the restart En-Nesyri after an embarrassing yellow-red swallow from the square. Shortly before that, Bono was able to distinguish himself with a sensational save with a Sesko shot.

The guests couldn’t really use the numerical superiority against the Spaniards. Rather, it was the home side who found the chance to score the winning goal with a header from Lamela that went just wide of the goal (77th). In the very final phase it was very heated. In stoppage time Bono prevented Aaronson from making it 2-1 with another brilliant act.
