Chain crash on I-10 leaves at least one dead – Telemundo San Antonio (60)

SAN ANTONIO – A trailer driver was killed in a chain-link accident along Interstate 10 east of San Antonio.

Surveillance video from a nearby hotel recorded the crash that occurred Thursday at around 8:45 p.m. on the westbound roads of I-10 near FM 1516.

In the images, the driver of a pickup truck can be seen spinning out of control after passing through black ice, then stopping in the middle of the road. The driver was apparently unhurt and abandoned his vehicle on the tracks.

Later, the trailer driver tried to dodge the truck that was blocking the way, but lost control of the truck and crashed into a concrete wall. Police said the driver was not wearing his seat belt and was projected on impact.

Soon after, the driver of a double-trailer FedEx truck tried to avoid hitting the first trailer, but it slid on the ice and one of his trailers flipped over.

Police said the driver of the first trailer was transported with serious head injuries to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he died. His identity has not been released.

Authorities closed the road for several hours to carry out the survey and remove the vehicles and debris from the roads.
