In times of the corona crisis, people’s freedom of movement is severely restricted. This also applies to visits to the cemetery. The Vienna cemeteries have now launched a free service so that the relatives can be close to the deceased: With the “Digital Grave” there is an overview of important information about the grave online and access to virtual memorial rooms.
“We are experiencing an increased need for information in customer service,” said Friedhöfe managing director Renate Niklas, introducing the new offer in a press release on Wednesday. “Significantly more people call us to ask questions about their grave. Saying goodbye is currently also painful for many people at funerals without a common funeral service. We want to be of assistance here.”

Actually, the presentation of the “digital grave” was not planned until early summer, but has now been brought forward due to the current situation. The virtual offer is accessible via the website. You log in using a personal access code. Then all information about the grave, such as occupancy or duration, can be viewed, and the grave can also be extended there.

There is also a protected area that only personally invited guests can visit. The deceased can be remembered there. It is also possible to post personal memories and pictures.
