The indictment against a 19-year-old from the Gemünden area sounded spectacular: in October she drove a car on the federal highway 27 from Lohr to Würzburg – at times up to 230 kilometers per hour. The journey ended in the crash barrier. In the court hearing on Monday, some almost tragic details became known.

It was October 2nd when the accused and a friend were celebrating in a club in Würzburg. Around midnight, a friend from Lohr called her, who wanted her to pick her up so that she could join the celebrations: Because he had already been drinking, he could no longer drive himself. The two women set out to help. Arriving in Lohr, the friend suggested driving “his” car, an Audi convertible (cost: from 60,000 euros and up).

He in the front passenger seat, the girlfriend in the back seat and the accused at the wheel, the trio drove off in the direction of Würzburg. The maximum permissible speed was clearly exceeded. Especially on the stretch between Karlstadt and Würzburg: there the man made sure of it by pushing the automatic transmission up further using the shift button. “I only steered,” said the accused to youth judge Volker Büchs.

The journey then ended near Würzburg, in a long left-hand bend: at around 223 kilometers per hour, the vehicle crashed twice into the left guardrail and then twice into the right guardrail. The property damage was estimated at 41,195.10 euros at the time. The passenger and the girlfriend in the back seat filmed the journey with their cell phones. The driver and front passenger suffered bruises and abrasions, and the girlfriend in the back seat suffered whiplash.

Now the charge for the driver was participation in an illegal car race and negligent bodily harm. Although no other vehicles were involved, the ride counts as a car race. “This is always the case when an attempt is made to achieve the highest possible speed,” said Judge Büchs, explaining the legal situation.

The court had to be satisfied with the descriptions of the 19-year-old accused and the interrogations by the police: the passenger called as a witness had preferred to fly to Mallorca on vacation on the morning of the hearing. The girlfriend was also absent without an apology. You will soon receive a letter asking you to pay the costs of the hearing caused by your absence. In addition, there is a fine of 500 euros (passenger) and 300 euros (girlfriend).

“Both of them already know why they didn’t appear in court today,” said the defense attorney. Because both are partly to blame. By shifting up gears, cheering and filming the drive, the driver was encouraged to drive faster. “If I had known that, I would never have driven the car,” said the woman when she learned that the convertible does not belong to her boyfriend but to his employer. The young woman has not yet processed what happened. Her former girlfriend, who publishes hate slogans and pictures on social media, also makes sure of that.

The driver was now convicted under the juvenile criminal law. 120 hours of community service within the next five months, that was the verdict. She had to give up her driver’s license immediately and can only apply for a new driver’s license after nine months. The judgment is final.
