Cause of death still unclear: Ex-Wirecard manager died in Manila

Christopher B. previously headed Wirecard’s Asian business. The 45-year-old was also considered the confidant of the ex-board member Jan Marsalek. B. has now died in the Philippines. Previously, he was admitted to a clinic because of a fit.

The scandal surrounding the payment service provider Wirecard is overshadowed by a death. As the “Handelsblatt” reports, Christopher B., former Asia chief of the company, died in the Philippine capital Manila. He was 45 years old. The cause of the manager’s death is still unclear.

According to Wirecard insiders, B. was an important contact for the ex-board member Jan Marsalek. Rumor has it that Marsalek has made hundreds of pounds of cash in the Philippines in the past.

B.’s father told the Handelsblatt newspaper that his son had not previously been ill. However, he was brought to a clinic because of a weakness. “We don’t have much information either,” the father told the newspaper. The family was shocked and disturbed by the rumors of his son’s alleged crimes. The father said about the circumstances of his death: “I think it was a natural thing.”

B. had not been active for Wirecard for several years, but was considered an important business partner of the group. According to the “Handelsblatt”, the 45-year-old ran two Filipino payment processors with his wife, through which Wirecard generated the majority of its alleged Asian sales. The Asian business represented a significant part of Wirecard’s supposed sales. It later turned out that they didn’t exist. In the Philippines, among other things, the federal police are investigating B.
