There, the latter revealed that she has previously gone through a “Goth, very emo” phase. During that period, she dyed her hair black, cut it with a razor blade and listened to heavy metal music.
However, the revelation of the 32-year-old seemed to shock Blanchett greatly.
The Independent has also mentioned the matter.
– Does anyone like heavy metal music? Was there something you really liked, she asks wonderingly during the interview and adds:
– The most humiliating moment of my life
– Do you like monster trucks and things like that?
Robbie confirmed that she still listens to heavy metal to this day.
Following the interview, several people have reacted on social media to Blanchett’s “condescending” reaction towards Robbie.
Rolling Stone editor Marlow Stern published one clip from the interview on Twitter.
“Love that Cate Blanchett was completely confused by Margot Robbie being an emo girl who liked metal music,” Stern captioned the clip.
Metal fans also took to Twitter to defend Robbie.
“I love how Cate Blanchett has no idea what metal fans really are,” wrote one, while another added:

“Gee, so judgmental Cate. We women are supposed to build each other up. Okay, so you don’t like metal, so what!”
“Cultural elites like Cate have always viewed heavy metal fans/musicians as inferior,” wrote a third.
