‘Catalan police accuse Barça chairman Bartomeu of corruption’

According to the Spanish daily The world there is evidence that Bartomeu is involved in corruption. The newspaper goes back to the ‘Barcagate’, in which Bartomeu is said to have instructed a company, presumably I3 Ventures, to damage individuals via various social media accounts in order to clean up his own image. The company would have received almost a million euros from Barcelona.

These included Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique, who have no warm ties with Bartomeu. The goal was simple: political opponents of the Barcelona administration had to be smeared, so that the administration would come out better. Interestingly enough, this happened during contract negotiations. Barcelona denied in all keys.

Investigations were done and it seemed to fizzle out for Bartomeu, but according to The world the Catalan police force Los Mossos has evidence that the chairman was indeed involved in corruption. He would also have benefited financially from things Barcelona has done.

Bartomeu has been under fire in recent weeks and does not seem to be able to handle this. He is seen as the one who led Messi to the exit of Barcelona and is also held responsible for the crisis the club is currently facing. Barcelona has not won a prize this season for the first time in twelve years.
