Cat survives 11 days in ceiling of New York airport | Abroad

Taylor and Muji were at the airport on Christmas Eve. An airport employee insisted that the black and white animal be removed from her carrier or she could not pass the check.

“I said, ‘Then she’ll run, do I really have to get her out of the basket?” Le says to New York Post. It really had to, and so Muji was taken out of the basket. While Taylor along with Muji through the security check walked, the cat decided to run: she bit her owner and jumped away.

In vain

Just when Le was about to get her cat again, the six-year-old started running again. Muji ended up in the technical room of the airport, where two employees of the airport made a number of attempts to catch the animal. That turned out to be in vain.

According to Taylor, all attempts to capture the animal only complicated the situation: “The situation was getting worse.”

Finally, Muji disappeared into the ceiling. They tried to trap Muji with trays of tuna. Taylor rebooked her flight, hoping this problem would be resolved the next day. But … The cat remained hidden in the ceiling.

No roof over her head

What made the whole operation considerably more difficult is that Taylor was in the middle of a move at the time. She was to move from Brooklyn, New York, to Orange County, California: “I had no place to sleep. I had nothing. I didn’t know what to do. In the end I got on a plane the next day. ”

The days passed and Muji was still entrenched in the ceiling of LaGuardia Airport. In desperation, Le turned to Facebook to ask for help there.

For example, the American came into contact with Where Is Jack Inc., an organization that is committed to making air travel as animal-friendly as possible. A group of volunteers was called in to speed up the search. Le was also given permission to search for Muji with a tracking dog, Abby.

For a moment, Muji’s adventure seemed to end: the adventurous cat turned out to be back in the technical room. However, Taylor’s hopes were dashed: the usual methods of luring the cat did not help.

Finally caught

Finally, on January 4, Muji was captured 11 days after she expected her freedom. Taylor: “I started to cry when I heard the message. It is a miracle.”

The cat was taken to the Long Island animal hospital to be reunited with her owner on Tuesday.

Last Saturday, the two were finally able to resume their trip to California, together: “This time I have a special harness for her, and I request private screenings at the controls.” Although the whole incident had quite an impact on Le, she is confident that the bond between her and Muji is now stronger than ever.
