Castres. After 44 years in the service of knitters, Evelyne Bernard will also close shop

Well known to knitters from Castres and the region, the wool boutique on rue Fuziès will close its doors for good in a few days. At the head of this store, Evelyne Bernard has distilled her advice and offered “noble materials”, she says, for 44 years!

Beyond this long period in the same shop, this knitting enthusiast has a peculiarity, since between two customers, she knits again and again, and all those who use rue Fuziès have noticed that she still knits standing up. Standing, therefore for more than 40 years, in his shop!

We can talk about kilometers of wool that have paraded here, through all his creations, to say the least, varied (layette, headbands, hats, capes, shawls, scarves and others), without counting all those of his generations of customers who push the door. of his shop for so many years. “Some also come for the pleasure of chatting”, confides the shopkeeper, who without really having thought of retirement, lowers the curtain, like the spinning mill which supplied her with wool: “Anny Blatt and Bouton d’or”, well-known and recognized brands!

“This spinning mill installed near Orange in the Vaucluse had existed for more than 200 years!”, Adds Evelyne. The latter also experienced all the vitality of rue Fuziès a few years ago and saw many shops shut down. According to her, “a lot of shops have small spaces”. Soon, the entire building will be put up for sale, as the owner of the whole. Does she intend to put her needles away for good? Not at all, Evelyne, who wears a pretty handmade sweater, will knit again… but, for her grandsons, now!
