The Mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulin Cruz Soto, activated this afternoon the Emergency Operations Center (COE) due to the possible passage of Storm Laura in the Puerto Rico area so activated 404 municipal employees to attend the emergency.
“Given the possibility of storm Laura passing through the Puerto Rico area, I activated the Emergency Operations Center and starting tonight at 10:00 pm the shelters will be open: El Gandul, for homeless people, and the Barrio Obrero 1 Multiple Services Center for residents of that sector. Also, From tomorrow, Saturday at 6:00 am, the Campo Alegre shelters for the homeless, The School of San Juan for families and the Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseito will be open where the center of our operations is also established.”, Highlighted the First Executive of San Juan in a press release.
Carmen Yulín indicated that “we have activated a total of 404 municipal employees working directly in the emergency, which are distributed as follows: 164 municipal police; 110 employees of the Municipal Office for Emergency Management; 60 employees of the Department of Social Development; and 70 employees of Municipal Public Works for mitigation work and rubble collection ”.
He also explained that “this is not the time to remove debris or garbage because they could obstruct the sewers or become projectiles. Nor should they venture to cross bodies of water or flooded roads. Should an emergency arise related to the storm, please call the 787-480-2222”.

Municipal Health System
All the Diagnosis and Treatment Centers are open with the exception of San José, Puerta de Tierra and La Perla dispensary. The Municipal Hospital of San Juan and the rest of the Diagnosis and Treatment Centers will work on regular hours and are prepared with drinking water, medicines and medical surgical supplies enough for 1 month and have a cistern and electricity generators. The VIDA clinic and Transalud today advanced the medications corresponding to Saturday and Sunday.
Community Citizen Transformation Centers (CTCC)
The CCCC of Las Curías, Playita, Quebrada Arenas, Puerto Nuevo and the one of the Goyco School on Loíza Street are ready with medical equipment, food, drinking water, water tanks and solar panels. As announced, these centers are equipped with saws, axes, rakes, brushes, water filters, stoves, refrigerators to store medicines and breast milk, showers, in short, everything that is needed to provide first-hand help in what the Municipality can come.
