Care day: time is running out for good working conditions!

It’s International Day of Care. Throughout the country, caregivers are taking part in actions to ask politicians and employers to act to improve working conditions.

While politicians hesitate, too many caregivers are abandoning the profession. The remaining staff suffer the consequences, such as people who can no longer be properly cared for.

Hurry up

The care initiative is to be implemented in two stages. At the rate proposed by the Federal Council, there will not be better working conditions for three or four years. It is much too late, because there are already 13,000 vacancies in care. Poor working conditions overburden caregivers and make them sick.

In the end, it is also the residents and the patients who suffer the consequences, because it no longer becomes possible to provide quality care.

For better working conditions, immediately

Caregivers are not prepared to wait any longer. They are asking the cantons, municipalities and employers for immediate measures for better working conditions.

At national level, the Federal Council and Parliament must quickly enact strong laws for strong care and adequate funding of benefits.

The people support the caregivers

The Swiss population broadly accepted the healthcare initiative last November. “It shows that the people support the health personnel. He wants good working conditions that allow quality care. Only in this way will caregivers be able to properly care for us and our loved ones in the future. The population has understood this. It is now up to the Federal Council, Parliament and employers to implement this desire,” explains Véronique Polito, Vice-President of Unia.
