Capture satellite line moving over the Puerto Rican sky

A curious sighting – a line of shining objects moving – was caught tonight in the sky.

This is a group of the 60 Starlink satellites that could be seen with the naked eye from the entire Borincan archipelago.

“The passage of Starlink satellites over Puerto Rico at 7:15 pm, I captured this video from Hato Rey,” meteorologist Deborah Martorell wrote on her Twitter account, next to the video that shows the bright lights in the sky.

Other netizens also managed to capture the moment and shared the images on the same social network.

“Sometime between 7:14 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. Today, looking north-west, you can see a line of objects moving in the sky. It is a group of 60 Starlink satellites, and they will look curious since they will be seen crossing the sky like a wake or in a row, ”said Eddie Irizarry of the Caribbean Astronomy Society (SAC) in the morning.

Irizarry explained that it is the fifth group of the “Starlink”, which are part of a SpaceX project to place an extensive satellite constellation in orbit, with the purpose of offering satellite internet.

The SAC vice president said the satellites that will be visible tonight were launched on a Falcon 9 rocket Monday from Cape Canaveral in Florida.

Although the launch of the Starlink has caused concern in the scientific community since they are affecting some observations and studies, these groups of satellites do not stop looking very curious, since they are observed as a train or wake of objects.

SpaceX and several sectors of the scientific community are in talks about how to place satellites in orbit without affecting astronomical studies.

To be able to appreciate the sighting of today, the SAC stressed that it will be easy to locate the satellite trail, since it will appear a little more to the right of where the brilliant planet Venus is observed, as can be seen in an illustration shared by the entity educational
