Canyoning accident: searches for a missing person interrupted because of the rain

The emergency services have stopped the search to find the Spanish tourist missing in the accident which has already killed three of his compatriots on Wednesday in the canton of St. Gallen.

The search for a man missing after Wednesday night’s canyoning accident near Vättis (SG) has been halted due to rain. The accident most likely killed four people. Three bodies were found overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

The operations were interrupted, because “it is a question of the safety of our people”, declared Friday Florian Schneider, spokesman for the cantonal police force of St. Welsh. Research will resume as soon as possible in small teams.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, a violent thunderstorm hit the Parlitobel Gorge, near Vättis, where four Spaniards were canyoning. They were washed away by masses of water and rock. Three bodies were found. The fourth man is still missing, but is most likely dead, police say. The four Spaniards are 30, 33, 38 and 48 years old. They all come from the Navarre region. They were experienced in canyoning.
