Cancer Patient Doctors Still Need Covid-19 Vaccinations

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – There are a number of criteria for receiving a Covid-19 vaccine.

Patients with certain diseases, pregnant and lactating women are included in the criteria for not being vaccinated.

Then what about cancer patients?

An oncologist from Premier Jatinegara Hospital, Dr. dr. Tubagus Djumhana A, SpPD-KHOM said, cancer patients still need Covid-19 vaccination.

He said cancer patients were vulnerable to being exposed to the corona virus.

This was conveyed by Dr. Tubagus in a virtual activity from the Ministry of Health entitled World Cancer Day 2021 Covid-19 Vaccine, Thursday (4/2/2021).

“Do cancer patients need to be given the COVID-19 vaccine? The answer is necessary, because cancer causes their immune system to decrease, so that exposure to Covid is at high risk,” said Dr. Tubagus.

He continued, even though they need vaccines, cancer patients must first pass a series of tests to find out whether or not the vaccine is appropriate.

“The patient must come to an oncologist, am I one of the people who really need the Covid-19 vaccine? If not, what should be done?” he said.

“If it has to be given, it still has to be supervised by a oncologist,” continued Dr. Tubagus.

Then, he said the process of injecting the Covid-19 vaccine in cancer patients cannot be done in public places.

“It is advisable to give vaccines to cancer patients not in public places, because they have to queue for later exposure to (Covid-19). So it must be at the hospital or cancer center,” he explained.

For this reason, it is hoped that those who do not receive the Covid-19 vaccine 3M health protocols must be adhered to.
