The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the cancellation of the quadrilateral summit that was scheduled for today, Wednesday, in Amman, with the participation of US President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in addition to King Abdullah II of Jordan, after the Israeli bombing that targeted the Baptist Hospital in Gaza.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi said in press statements, “After consulting with our Palestinian brothers and our brothers in Egypt and after talking with the United States, we decided not to hold the quadripartite summit that was scheduled in Amman for Wednesday.”
He explained that the Kingdom decided to cancel the summit “because we want it, if it is held, to produce one solution that has no other, which is to stop the war, respect the humanity of the Palestinians, and deliver the aid they deserve.”
He stressed that the international community must put an end to “the bloodshed, the continuation of which constitutes a disgrace to humanity.”
The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the number of victims of the Israeli bombing that targeted the courtyard of the Baptist Hospital in Gaza had risen to 500 martyrs, most of whom were women and children.
Biden cancels his visit to Jordan
In this context, a White House official said that President Biden canceled a scheduled visit to Jordan after a visit to Israel.
The official added that after consulting with King Abdullah II and in light of the days of mourning announced by the Palestinian President, President Biden will postpone his travel to Jordan.
Biden pledged to communicate “in the coming days” with the three leaders with whom he was scheduled to hold a summit in Amman.
Meanwhile, Jordanian citizens expressed their rejection of the US President’s visit to Amman, and participants in a popular demonstration in the capital, Amman, affirmed their absolute support for the Palestinian resistance and the steadfastness of the people of the Gaza Strip.
They denounced the crimes of the occupation in the Gaza Strip and American support for Israel, calling on the Jordanian government to expel the Israeli ambassador and close the embassy headquarters in Amman, in addition to stopping the alliance between the Kingdom and the United States.
