Canada is on track to invite 470,000 permanent residents in 2022. Over the past seven months, the country has admitted 274,980 permanent residents. Canada exceeds the number of invitations under the 2022-2024 immigration plans.
Sean Fraser has outlined a plan to expand Canada’s permanent residency pathways. The extension is for temporary guest workers and international students. Temporary workers and international students must have the required work experience in industries facing the challenge of labor shortages. A five pillar approach was to help transient residents become permanent.
Canada plans to abolish vaccination requirements for immigrants wishing to immigrate to the country. The requirement will be dropped by the end of September 2022. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just has to give the green light. Additionally, the government also plans to lift the requirement for random COVID-19 tests at airports.
The Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025 has been published. The plan has come with big numbers, reflecting Canada’s ambitious drive to steadily increase the number of immigrants over the years and reach its goal of 1.5 million immigrants by 2025.
In 2022, Canada expects 432,000 new immigrants. The target for 2023 is 4.65,000, for 2024 4.85,000 and for 2025 500,000. The Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025 even sets a target for immigrants passing through the PGP. They are 28,500 in 2023, 34,000 in 2024 and 36,000 in 2025.
The target for immigrants who are spouses, children, or partners of Canadian permanent residents or Canadian citizens is 80,000.
