VANCOUVER – At least 69 people in the Vancouver area Canada has died as a result heat wave the record-breaking hit that hit the west of the country and the Pacific Northwest United States of America (USA), police said Tuesday local time.

Canadian police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), most of those killed in the Vancouver suburbs of Burnaby and Surrey over the past 24 hours were the elderly or people with underlying health conditions.

Other local cities said they had also responded to numerous sudden death calls since Monday, but had not released tolls.

“While it is still under investigation, heat is believed to be a factor in most of the deaths,” RCMP Corporal Michael Kalanj said in a statement. France24, Wednesday (30/6/2021).

Climate change is causing temperature records to become more frequent. Globally, the decade to 2019 was recorded as the hottest, and the five hottest years have all occurred in the last five years.

High-pressure ridges trapping warm air in the region are blamed for the scorching heat that stretches from the US state of Oregon to the Canadian Arctic region.
