Camping Appelhof on Terschelling closes prematurely due to infections | NOW

Youth campsite Appelhof on the Wadden island of Terschelling will close its doors on Sunday, reports the Safety region Fryslân Friday. Several visitors to the campsite turned out to be infected with the corona virus this week.

The campsite has decided, in consultation with the municipality of Terschelling and the Safety Region Fryslân, that the Appelhof closes on Sunday at 12 noon. Young people who are still present or who were planning to come will be informed by the campsite.

“Although the number of young people who have tested positive for corona has fortunately not been so far, we are taking the situation very seriously”, says mayor Jon Hermans-Vloedbeld of Terschelling.

At least eight visitors to the campsite appeared to be infected with the COVID-19 virus earlier this week. Many young people have canceled their holiday for that reason or left early, the safety region reports.

On Thursday, a fast test street was opened in the vicinity of the Appelhof where young people can get tested because of the infections. About two hundred corona tests were administered on the first day. Because the test material was used up in the early afternoon, the GGD could only continue administering the tests on Friday.

1 of 143 corona tests was positive on Thursday

Of the 143 tests for which the results were known on Thursday evening, one turned out to be positive. The test result was not yet clear for 9 people and 133 people tested negative. The results of another sixty tests will follow on Friday.

The young people who leave the island this weekend can take a ferry. If the number of positive youngsters continues to increase, they will be transported to the mainland by a separate transporter.
