A striking twist in the case of a motorhome that was stolen on June 26 in Venlo. Initially, a 24-year-old German was arrested because he allegedly stole the camper and then drove the car into the Maas. Now the police are investigating the role of the owner of the camper.

Before he drove into the river, the German was stabbed several times with an awl and threatened with a firearm, the regional broadcaster reports. 1Limburg. Justice is now investigating what exactly happened. In the meantime, the German has been released.

Initial reported the police that the man had come to blows with the owner when he wanted to steal his camper. The German was injured, but managed to take the camper with him and ended up in the river for unknown reasons. There he was wounded and arrested by the police.

Different view on incident

“Additional investigation has led to a different view of the facts of the incident,” a spokesperson for the judiciary now says. She doesn’t want to say anything about that. But according to 1Limburg, there may now be a charge for threats, possession of weapons and perjury against the owner.

For example, it first appeared that the German had used a firearm when taking the camper. An emergency pistol was found in the vehicle. The RV’s owner stated that the gun was not his, but later admitted that it was his gun and not the thief’s. He also stated that he used the weapon to threaten the German. That partly agrees with the thief’s statement, who said a weapon was held to his head.

fit of panic

Justice is also investigating whether stabbing with the awl leads to a charge. The motorhome owner says in his statement that he went into a fit of panic to protect himself after a strange man suddenly broke into his motorhome. However, no traces of breakage were found. The German man also stated that the struggle took place just outside the camper.

After being stabbed and beaten several times, the man in his twenties jumped into the camper and accelerated to escape the situation. He claims it was never his intention to steal the vehicle. The man was seriously confused and possibly under the influence of drugs. According to his lawyer, he is back in Germany. He awaits the investigation there.
