Cameroon :: The President of the Senate and the Secretary General Seriously Ill: Uncertainties at the Summit of the State :: Cameroon

A wave of concern is shaking the highest political circles in Cameroon as alarming information concerning the health of the President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifendji, and his Secretary General, Michel MEVA’A M’EBOUTOU, has just emerged. These two eminent figures, essential to the functioning of the Senate, are facing health problems which have prevented them from fully exercising their functions in recent times.

Marcel Niat Njifendji, aged 90 and born in October 1934 in Bangangte, was hospitalized in France almost three weeks ago, leaving a notable void at the ceremony of presenting 2024 wishes to Paul Biya. His long convalescence outside the country has raised questions about his ability to resume political activities in the near future.

On the other hand, the Secretary General, Michel MEVA’A M’EBOUTOU, also suffering from health problems, has been evacuated for treatment for more than three months. Although he returned to Cameroon recently, his condition forced him to delegate the management of current affairs to his son, who, according to internal sources, manages the general secretariat in a questionable manner, alongside a close circle called “the Mormon gang”.

This double absence for health reasons at the top of the Senate raises questions about the stability and functioning of the institutions. The prolonged vacancy of these key positions could open the way to unprecedented adjustments and repercussions on the political balances at the highest level of the State.

As Cameroon faces a period of potential transition in its political leadership, uncertainty looms over the future of the Senate and how these events could influence national political dynamics.

The medical situation of the two senior dignitaries of the Senate, in addition to raising concerns for their personal health, raises crucial questions regarding the governance and continuity of activities of this essential institution in the country.

As these events unfold, the attention of the public and political actors turns to upcoming developments, seeking to understand the potential impact of these prolonged absences on Cameroon’s political landscape.

Stay informed for any major developments regarding this delicate situation which could redefine the political dynamics at the top of the Cameroonian state.
