SAN FRANCISCO (dpa-AFX) – The US state of California prescribes corona vaccinations or regular tests for teachers and school staff. California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the new editions on Wednesday in a school in Oakland. Accordingly, the more than 300,000 teachers and employees in schools either have to provide proof of vaccination or undergo weekly coronavirus tests.
California, the most populous state in the United States, will be the first state in the United States to require this for the upcoming school year. The vaccinations are the best tool to fight the pandemic and keep schools open, Newsom said.
California also recently decided that all West Coast state workers and medical personnel there must either show proof of vaccination or have regular tests.
The measures are a reaction to the rapidly spreading delta variant of the coronavirus, which is now dominant in the USA and is causing increasing numbers of infections, especially among unvaccinated people.
