Cabinet comes to the rescue of local and regional media with 11 million euros NOW

Local public broadcasters and door-to-door newspapers receive support of 11 million euros from the cabinet. In this way, the survival of such media must be guaranteed.

“Especially nowadays it is important that people know what is going on in their vicinity,” said Minister Arie Slob (Primary and Secondary Education and Media). “Local media are crucial for this and must therefore be able to function properly. That is why I help where the need is greatest.”

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, local media can often no longer rely on advertising revenues, which means that the government’s support fund can provide a solution. Minister Slob has asked municipalities and provinces to purchase advertisements or to ensure that the local media receive money.

Local public broadcasters and door-to-door newspapers can submit their applications to the Stimulation Fund for Journalism between 11 and 19 April.
