EINDHOVEN –
The measures surrounding social distancing (keeping a distance) are being further tightened. For example, all events and gatherings are prohibited until 1 June and substantial fines can be issued to people who do not follow the rules. This was announced on Monday evening during the cabinet’s press conference on the corona crisis.

The measures will be tightened on three points:
1. Meetings (events and gatherings) are prohibited until June 1.
2. Mayors can close places where too many people gather with an emergency ordinance.
3. Strong fines will be issued if people do not follow the rules.
Mayor can close place
An emergency ordinance will be introduced that mayors of all municipalities in the country can enforce faster if people do not follow the measures to keep a distance of one and a half meters. This allows mayors to close specific locations where too many people gather. Think of a nature reserve, the beach or park.
Substantial fines
Fines can be handed out as soon as the emergency ordinances take effect in municipalities. The fines for companies can amount to 4000 euros. For private individuals it concerns amounts up to 400 euros. It is maintained on groups of three people or more who do not keep to a distance of one and a half meters.
According to Prime Minister Rutte and the Minister, people have not adhered enough to the rules surrounding social distancing in recent days. Therefore, the rules need to be tightened.
Minister Fred Grapperhaus: “Only go out the door if you have to meet the necessities of life. Go shopping, but do that alone. Not with the whole family. Only then is it possible to keep that one and a half meter distance again and again.”
According to the minister, you can get a breath of fresh air, but “do that alone”, he said. “Certainly not with groups or groups. Always keep a meter and a half away and stay away from groups. Have up to three people visiting and only if you can keep a meter and a half away.” The lower limit of a hundred people together in a room therefore also disappears immediately.
Schools and catering
Schools have their own regulations for the time being. After April 6, it will be examined whether or not children can go to school. For the time being, all catering will remain closed until April 6, after which it will be examined whether follow-up measures are needed.
