BVG Strike Impact: Schools to Issue Certificates Early for 2023/2024 School Year

Due to the BVG strike announced this Friday, schools can issue the certificates for the first half of the 2023/2024 school year on Thursday, February 1, 2024. This regulation also applies to all documents required for the transition to secondary schools. The decision is at the discretion of the school management. Classes will take place as scheduled on Thursday, February 1, 2024, despite the certificate being issued. The certificates remain dated February 2, 2024.

For schools that issue certificates on Thursday, February 1, 2024, the following also applies: In primary schools and the primary levels of community schools as well as schools with a special education focus, care must be ensured on Friday, February 2, 2024 .

Since the grades do not always correspond to wishes and expectations, the employees of the concern hotline in the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family advise parents and students on small and large report card concerns. Due to the announced BVG strike, the employees are now available on two days.

Katharina Günther-Wünsch, Senator for Education, Youth and Family: “Many children and their parents are understandably unsettled when the report card doesn’t turn out as hoped. But scolding the children about it doesn’t help anyone. What helps is calm and caring conversations in order to understand the causes together and find solutions. Students need self-confidence in order to be able to improve their school performance on their own initiative. Our experts on the helpline, which will be active again on the day of the report, will be happy to help parents and students.”
