Before the upcoming reform of the UEFA club competitions, the fans of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich have issued a joint statement. In the statement, the supporters clearly positioned themselves against further inflation of the tournaments.
“Football is already at a critical load limit in many respects and must not over-spin the wheel any further,” says the statement from the BVB fan department and Club No. 12, the representative of active Bayern fans.
Furthermore, the fans demanded that the qualification for participation in the Champions League should only take place on the basis of sporting criteria in the preseason and that the proceeds from the international competitions must be distributed more fairly among the teams. Only in this way could “fair and more balanced and thus exciting competitions” continue.
The existing format of the competitions could be significantly adapted this year. This is what Andrea Agnelii, head of the European club association ECA, recently hinted at. Among other things, Agnelli brought a reform into play, according to which a key determined over several years would decide whether to participate in the Champions League and not just before the previous season, as is currently the case.
