Butcher TV 2 interview with Melina Johnsen

In March, reality profile Melina Johnsen (25) was convicted in Oslo District Court for driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a driver’s license and bodily injury. She was sentenced to 90 days unconditional imprisonment.

The conditions she has been convicted of took place on the night of Sunday 23 August last year. Nearly half past two in the morning, she kicked a man in a fast food restaurant in Oslo.

In court, she denied kicking him in the crotch, as she was accused of, and thought she kicked him in the leg.

Shortly afterwards, almost an hour later, she was behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayenne while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. She was tried to stop by the police, but drove on. The police had to stop the persecution as they thought it was not justifiable to continue. Two hours later, the police gained control of the car, the reality profile and the owner of the car.

Criticism for “cuddle talk”

People who have been sentenced to less than six months in prison can apply to carry out the punishment with an anklet, which Johnsen has been granted.

It appears in an interview with «Good Evening Norway», where influencer and host Sofie “Sophie Elise” Steen Isachsen (26) is visiting Fredrikstad to interview Johnsen. There, the TV camera gets a close-up of the ankle, which Isachsen asks to have a look at.

During the 13 minutes of interview, they spend only two minutes talking about the drug driving Johnsen was convicted of.

Isachsen asks some critical questions during the interview, including whether Johnsen sees the seriousness of what she has done. However, the episode of violence has been omitted altogether.

– This is such a serious case, with drunk driving and violence, and then I think the setting for the entire interview will be wrong. People will perceive this more as a cuddle between two influencers, where she shows the ankle as a curiosity. One almost gets the impression that it is an event to have such an anklet, not that it is an expression that she has committed a serious criminal act that could have caused great harm to other people, says press expert Gunnar Bodahl-Johansen to Se og Hør , after being asked to watch the feature.

Read TV 2 and Isachsen’s response further down in the case. Se og Hør has not been able to get a comment from Johnsen.

Excluded episode of violence

The two influencers hug each other when they meet, laugh on the couch during the interview, talk about OnlyFans and Johnsen’s “escape” from the environment she was in the capital. The former “Ex on the Beach” participant is also in the tough time in her hometown Fredrikstad, which she has moved back to, and about being exposed to bullying as a child.

– I respond that the questions are not critical enough. They do not go into what is the case itself, and it is all very on the surface. This episode of violence she has been convicted of has also been omitted, it is not included at all, says the press veteran.

The feature has several clips of lightly dressed photos, and video clips of Johnsen swimming in a pool. When Johnsen talks about the police chase, siren sounds have been added, and the arrest is illustrated from the cutting room by darkening the section, with a light from the side.

– It is so out of place in this context. I am most surprised that TV 2 has chosen to publish this. This should have been treated much more respectfully, critically and thoroughly when first addressing such a topic. That it is taken as a cuddling program, where she is allowed to “speak out”, testifies that it is to a small extent governed by a professional attitude, Bodahl-Johansen continues.

In the interview, Johnsen can tell that she has now replaced the old life with exercise, healthy food and a job at a senior center.

Do not understand the criticism

Press manager at TV 2, Jan-Petter Dahl, tells Se og Hør that the channel does not recognize itself in the criticism.

– Influencer Melina Johnsen reaches many young people through her channels in social media, and this verdict has previously received wide media coverage, without Johnsen himself wanting to participate or comment. We are pleased that Johnsen agrees to an interview with “Good evening Norway”, without reservation, and openly answers all critical questions.

However, he does not answer why the episode of violence has been omitted from the interview. Isachsen tells Se og Hør that she also does not understand the criticism from Bodahl-Johansen.

– I wonder what kind of setting he thinks it should have been done in. It is important to make the person feel safe, and she has an ankle brace after all and can not move out of the home. I asked her questions about what she had done, and pointed out several times during the interview that it was a serious matter, asked if she regretted, and so on. I do not know what else could be said and done, she says.

– Is there any special reason why the episode of violence was omitted from the interview?

– No, there is no reason for that. TV 2 has to answer for that, we have prepared the questions for the interview together.

Isachsen emphasizes that much has been left out of the interview, and that a long interview has been cut down to a few minutes.

– As a person and journalist, it is important for me to give all people a chance. I’m not there to judge her for what she did. I would also like to add that I have a lot of respect for Melina for showing up. In her defense, she was very nervous in advance, and explained that her reaction when she is nervous is to laugh when she talks about something that is difficult, she says.
