In some of the 299 constituencies it was at the Bundestag election particularly exciting. In Potsdam, for example, the candidates for chancellor Olaf Scholz and Annalena Baerbock competed directly against each other! Bundestag election: Hans-Georg Maaßen (CDU) fails spectacularly
This provincial candidate was one of the hot topics of the election campaign: CDU politician Hans-Georg Maaßen ran in southern Thuringia. The ex-head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution occupies the right wing of the Christian Democrats. Armin Laschet came under constant pressure to distance himself from Maaßen.
In the end he loses significantly against SPD candidate and Olympic champion Frank Ullrich. Maassen comes to around 22 percent, Ullrich to around 33 percent.
