Build the Energy Industry, Become a Producer of Future Technology

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesian President Joko Widodo said Indonesia was working hard to build energy independence to improve the current account deficit and increase employment opportunities.

One thing that is being implemented is the processing of nickel ore into ferro nikel, stainless steel slab, steel sheet, and developed into the main material for battery lithium.

“This will make Indonesia’s position very strategic in development lithium battery, the world’s electric cars, and future technology producers, “Jokowi said at the Annual Session, Friday (14/8/2020).

Jokowi said, actually Indonesia is building energy independence can be seen from its success production biodiesel 20 (B20) by 2019.

Meanwhile in 2020, Indonesia is in the process of boosting production and use of B30. The goal is to reduce import values oil in 2019.

The latest Jokowi said that Pertamina had succeeded in creating a catalyst for the manufacture of D100, which is diesel fuel which is 100 percent made from palm oil and is currently testing production at 2 oil refineries.

“This will absorb a minimum of 1 million tons of palm oil produced by farmers for a production capacity of 20,000 barrels per day,” he said.

Meanwhile, the downstreaming of other raw materials also continues on a large scale. Coal is processed into methanol and gas.

Several refineries were also built to process crude oil into finished oil, as well as to drive the petrochemical industry that supplies high value added downstream industries.

“We also use the same principle in developing other industrial areas, including the construction of the super economic corridor on the north coast of Java,” said Jokowi.

Likewise with the Batang and Subang industrial areas, Majalengka, which were being developed in a short time. The industrial area is designed to target quality investments.

Finally, the investment will work together with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and absorb a large number of workers.

“Therefore, we must build a national ecosystem that is conducive to the expansion of quality job opportunities. We must do regulatory arrangements. Overlapping regulations, which complicate things, which trap all parties, we must finish,” he said.
