Brussels Airport expects 40,000 passengers from tomorrow: “Potentially longer queues due to stricter checks on travel documents” | Zaventem

ZaventemWith 40,000 passengers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Brussels Airport is in for a great weekend. And that just when the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor announced that increased checks on passengers and airlines will be carried out regarding the travel measures in times of corona. The airport therefore expects longer queues.

On Wednesday, the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor announced that from now on the federal police will check travelers at Zaventem more strictly for their mandatory travel documents in this corona crisis. Airlines can also expect to be subject to checks. Airlines that do not check travelers risk a fine of up to 48,000 euros. Passengers who are not in order, risk having to pay another 250 euros.

Brussels Airport states that it supports the decisions that are necessary for public health and always puts safe travel first. The checks will be carried out randomly on arriving flights. “These checks can lead to queues for passengers at peak times,” the airport said. “We therefore ask our passengers to be prepared for this and to have the Passenger Locator Form and the necessary documents at hand. We also call on the airlines to carry out the necessary checks on their passengers before boarding at the airport of departure. We expect 40,000 passengers each time in the coming days and therefore ask for understanding for the waiting times that the checks could cause on arriving travelers.”
