One of the reasons that some of the Brussels Airlines pilots in particular resigned at the end of June was out of dissatisfaction with their salary package. During the corona crisis, the social partners and the management agreed to index only 70 percent of the salary (only of the highest wages).
From a certain limit, the remaining wage is then converted into a so-called cafeteria plan, with which you could finance fringe benefits. That part would not be indexed. But with inflation approaching ten percent, the cockpit now wants to review that aspect.
“When we negotiated the collective labor agreement, inflation had been around 1 to 2 percent for years,” says the CEO. “Now the situation is completely different. I know that. We can look at the wage conditions in due course. I understand the problem and we must discuss this thoroughly with each other. But it is also clear, if we never make a profit, then there will also be There will never be room to make structural changes to salaries. Trust is needed on both sides. Because we want the same thing: Brussels Airlines to grow and to remain the largest and most relevant airline in Belgium.”
