NEW YORK – A member of the original cast of the Broadway musical “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” was randomly assaulted on a station in the subway from New York City this week. The attack led to surgery.
Broadway actor Alex Weisman says he was punched in the face Tuesday afternoon while at the B train station on 103rd Street for no apparent reason. Then he got on the train and got help at the next stop. The attack left him with a fractured eye socket and a torn retina.
“I’ve had four open-heart surgeries and testicular cancer, so I’m used to medical trauma,” the 33-year-old actor told our sister network NBC New York. “This was not something I could have anticipated.”
Despite needing surgery, Weisman says, “It’s important to stay positive and at some point, it will be two months from now, this will be left behind.”
The actor is also known for his work on NBC’s “Chicago Med” and “Chicago Fire.”
The alleged attacker has not yet been arrested.
