British Prime Minister Boris Johnson back to work on Monday after corona infection | NOW

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will return to work on Monday, a Downing Street spokesperson said on Saturday evening. Johnson tested positive for the coronavirus last month and was admitted to intensive care (IC) for some time.

Johnson will take back control of the British government from Monday from British Secretary of State Dominic Raab, who temporarily replaced him since his inclusion on the IC.

The 55-year-old prime minister tested positive for the corona virus in late March. At first he said he only had mild symptoms. From home isolation, Johnson continued to lead the government.

April 5, Johnson was taken to hospital because his symptoms had not subsided after two weeks. A day later, he was admitted to IC because he was having trouble breathing. He was briefly given oxygen. Because of his inclusion on the IC, Johnson transferred his duties to Raab.

Three days after the admission, he was transferred back to a regular ward. On April 12, the prime minister was released from the hospital. Johnson has now fully recovered.

The British newspaper The Telegraph announced on Thursday that Johnson would resume his duties next week. Johnson is said to have asked employees to schedule meetings with cabinet ministers so that they can update the prime minister on the state of affairs in the UK.

British people want to relax measures

Criticism of the British government is increasing in the meantime. There would be too little testing and there would be a shortage of protective equipment for healthcare workers.

In addition, the pressure on Raab is increasing to inform the British people about the steps the country wants to take to ease the measures in force. Raab urged the British on Saturday to continue to monitor the measures, but many lawmakers want easing to help the economy.

In the UK, more than 20,000 people currently die from the effects of the COVID-19 virus. There are also nearly 150,000 British people infected with the virus.
