The leader of the beer market closes its headquarters: the energy crisis hits Radeberger

The energy crisis does not stop at any sector. In particular, gas shortages and the resulting high costs for energy and production are causing problems for the beverage industry. At first they tried one second price increase for beer to cushion the consequences of the crisis, but then there was the current situation carbonic acid is running out.

At the beginning of September he already had the first breweries to announce that they are phasing out production due to CO2 shutdown must. At the beginning of the carbonic acid shortage, it was mainly the smaller companies in southern Germany who were affected. With the announcement of the Radeberger brewery, however, it is now striking a group that offers its beer brands in almost every region.

Be it Dortmunder Kronen, Allgäuer Büble beer, various brands Kölsch, Binding or Schöffehofer, all these brands belong to the beer market leader and literally cross Germany, as reported by RUHR24. What are the consequences of the fact that the subsidiary of the Oetker Group adopts drastic measures?

Radeberger closes the production site: the “economic disadvantages” are no longer acceptable

The last beer is to be brewed and bottled at the Frankfurt am Main site at the latest by October 2023: production will then be stopped there. According to the company, this is a reaction to the overcapacity in the beer market, the heavy cost burdens due to the war in Ukraine and the “economic disadvantages” affecting the Binding brewery in Frankfurt am Main.

sea food journal (LZ) they have so far been accepted in order to maintain the position. In the current situation, this is no longer possible. Even the increase in the price of beer, which was passed on to consumers twice in 2022, is no longer enough, Radeberger boss Guido Mockel told al LZ.

To compensate for the increase in costs and the lack of carbonic acid, other alternative approaches must therefore be sought. One of these is the production stop at the Binding brewery in Frankfurt am Main.

Binding – a beer brand of the Radeberger group

The Binding Brewery was founded in 1870 in Frankfurt am Maim by Conrad Binding and has been producing beer for around 150 years. In 2001, the Binding Brewery took over the brand and distribution rights of Henninger beers and launched the Clausthaler Radler. The company has belonged to the Radeberger Group since 2002. The brands Binding, Henninger, Schöfferhofer Weizen and Clausthaler are produced in the Frankfurt headquarters.

Beer enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief: the Radeberger production is not closed at the supermarket

Will beer enthusiasts soon have to do without the hops juice from the Radeberger group? No Binding beer will also continue to be produced and sold. But only as a brand without its own brewery. The quantities of beer must be transferred to other of the 13 production plants in Germany and must not be reduced in the process.

Breathe a sigh of relief for all fans of the Radeberger Group beer brands, an empty beverage shelf in the supermarket is imminent, so not for the moment. And what will happen to the approximately 150 employees who are currently still working in the Sachsenhausen district of Frankfurt? According to the group’s announcement, they want to find a “socially acceptable solution” for them.
