Brest falls for the first time this season, Metz takes first place

For the first time this season in the Butagaz Energie League, Brest left the floor with a defeat. The Bretons bowed to Paris 92 for the last day of the regular phase. Metz took advantage of his victory against Mérignac to take first place in the standings.

Paris 92 has achieved what seemed impossible. On the last day of the regular season of the Butagaz Energie League, not to mention the late matches yet to be played, Yacine Messaoudi’s players managed to inflict on Brest their first defeat of the season. Led by two entry goals after achievements by Ana Gros (5 goals on 9 shots) and Alicia Toublanc (1 goal on 2 shots), the Parisiennes then inflicted a 5-0 on the Brestoises with Laura Flippes (6 goals on 6 shots) during the maneuver. A delay that Pauletta Foppa’s teammates (4 goals on 4 shots) were unable to erase before half-time, reached with a deficit of three goals, especially because of the performance of Léa Serdarevic in the Paris goal (12 saves on 31 shots suffered and 47% efficiency over the first period alone). While a Breton reaction was expected from the start of the second half, it was the players of Paris 92 and Nadia Offendal (6 goals on 10 shots) who remained on their way from the first act of the meeting. The gap even reached six goals just over 20 minutes from the end of the game, Sandra Toft (5 saves on 14 shots suffered) could not do better than Cleopatra Darleux (4 saves on 15 shots suffered). Laurent Bezeau’s protected tried to come back but failed at the end of 60 minutes at three lengths (23-20) thanks to a final achievement signed Constance Mauny (2 goals on 2 shots). While Brest still has one game left to play before the play-offs, Paris 92 will start the second phase of the championship with 30 points and an outsider position for a place in the final.

Metz takes the lead in the standings

A few hours after the defeat of the Brestoises, Metz had a golden opportunity to regain first place in the standings while waiting for the late BBH match. The reception of Mérignac, penultimate of the championship, was a walk for the players of Manu Mayonnade. Indeed, under the impetus of Tjasa Stanko (6 goals on 6 shots) and Orlane Kanor (5 goals on 6 shots), the Messines started with a 5-0 which set the tone. The gap gradually swelled to wait twelve lengths at half-time. Sabrina Zazai’s teammates (4 goals on 6 shots) tried to resist but the step was far too high. The last quarter of an hour of the meeting was very difficult for Mérignac who conceded a 6-0 in seven minutes to allow Metz to widen a gap of 19 goals at the final whistle (35-16) and take three points ahead of Brest. At the foot of the podium, Nantes responded to Paris 92 with a difficult success against Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (26-23) in a match that settled in the last five minutes. The Nantes women will approach the play-offs one point ahead of Paris and six behind Metz. Team in form at the end of the regular phase, Nice lined up a seventh straight league victory at the expense of Toulon-Saint-Cyr (32-31) when Besançon narrowly dominated Fleury (32-31). Bourg-de-Péage, for its part, conceded a draw in Dijon (31-31). The red lantern, Plan de Cuques, bowed on his floor facing Chambray (14-20).
