The capture was carried out with the participation of Army units and according to the Brazilian authorities, he was taken to the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police in Alagoas, from where he will be transported to Minas Gerais in a Police plane.

The Brazilian authorities have reported that the fugitive was in a hostel, alone, and that upon noticing the presence of the Police he tried to flee.

The capture of Saade had the Colombian and Brazilian authorities in suspense since the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil authorized Saade’s extradition – two weeks ago – to answer for the death of Nancy Mestre.

In colombia Saade is sentenced to 24 years in prison for the rape and death of the young woman, in events recorded in Barranquilla on January 1, 1994; from that date the man fled and was located a few months ago in Brazil where he married and raised a family.

Interpol Brazil notified its Colombian counterparts of the capture of Saade, whose extradition remains in the hands of the Ministry of Justice, which will carry out the process.

The young woman was murdered in the early morning of January 1, 1994.

Precisely EL TIEMPO published today the concern of Raúl Rafael Romero del Río, who represents the victims of the case, Nancy’s father, Martín Mestre, who assured that without a doubt: “Saade would be trying to flee to avoid extradition, he is hiding there, we have been in constant contact with the authorities and they tell us that it has not been possible to locate himThey didn’t find him at home either.

In fact, Saade had been arrested in Brazil in January 2020, but a Colombian court determined that Nancy’s crime had expired and he was released in September of that year.

The family filed an appeal that managed to reactivate the process, since in 2022 the Supreme Court stopped the prescription because Saade committed criminal acts in Brazil for ideological falsehood and use of false documents before public bodies, to assume the identity – false – by Henrique Dos Santos Abdala.

The young woman was murdered in the early morning of January 1, 1994.

Jaime Saade could be extradited to Colombia in a maximum of one month, his case is a priority, after spending 29 years on the run for the death of Nancy Mestre, who at the time of the events was 18 years old and dreamed of traveling to the United States to study.
