Bradley Cooper on the ‘pointless’ Oscars

Despite the fact that Bradley Cooper has never won an Oscar, he has already won 8 nominations as an actor, producer and screenwriter. Still, he seems like Cooper doesn’t care that much since awards don’t mean all that much to him.During a recent interview, he and his colleague Anthony Ramos, who appeared alongside Cooper, dropped in A Star is Born, talks about the awards season. For example, Ramos thinks that prices focus too much on individuals, while making films is actually teamwork.

A lot of work
For example, Ramos says: ”Prices almost always go to just one person. But on set it is very different, you do the work with a whole team. Without that team the film could not be made. Everyone plays an important role, whether in front of or behind the camera”.

Yet we only pick a single person every time. It’s nice for the nominee in question, because everything revolves around him or her at once, but we must not forget that a film is put together by about 150 to 200 people”.

Cooper’s opinion
Cooper believes that awards have nothing to do with art: ”If you’re ‘lucky’, you’re involved in awards season, but you actually get obsessed with it too. It is a strange thing, you are confronted with your ego, your vanity and your insecurity. It is interesting and meaningless at the same time”.

Cooper was also very moved when he did not achieve important nominations with his film A Star is Born: ”I felt like I had done a bad job. Now, however, I feel ashamed that I felt that way at the time. It’s not about the nominations or the awards. You have to make something you believe in. The awards are a completely different element of the film industry”.

Contender
Despite the fact that the actor does not care much about prestigious film awards, many people think that he has a chance again with his future projects. For example, he will make a film about the life of the composer Leonard Bernstein, in which Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese act as producers.

When it comes to acting, Cooper is also busy. So he plays an important role in Guillermo del Toro‘s Nightmare Alley and has also signed on for the new, yet untitled film from Paul Thomas Anderson.
