Brabant VVD groups sound alarm about dumped drug waste: ‘Our drinking water is at risk’ | Inland

The VVD council factions of twelve municipalities in the west of North Brabant are very concerned about the many drug waste dumping in the outskirts of the province. In a joint urgent letter to Minister Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) and the VVD parliamentary party, they point out the lack of enforcement and ask for help.

“There are dumped in our forests almost every week. Loose barrels, abandoned vans, loose puddles or clogged wells. Our drinking water is at risk. It pollutes our nature, that same nature for which we have to adhere to nitrogen measures. Children at play get burns. The countryside has lost its innocence, ” said VVD people in Bergen op Zoom, Breda and Roosendaal, among others.

That much is left behind in nature in the west of the province is no surprise to them. “There is a lot of outdoor area: forests, meadows. Many places where people can go about their business undisturbed. But above all: there is hardly any enforcement. ”They point out that the police are understaffed and extraordinary investigators“ are not up to these large professional crime networks ”.

Hardly any enforcement

They applaud that a lot of effort is being put into stopping the production of drugs and rolling up the labs in which they are made. But we see that enforcement on the dumping of drug waste is lagging far behind. “That’s why this urgent letter: please help us, because it really can’t be any longer.”

They argue for camera surveillance, fixed patrols of the police, defense or a special task force in the form of the former field police that can fully focus on this. “In the forest, along the fields and around the well-known hotspots. Preventive checks in the countryside. Good forensic follow-up after a dumping. Please help us! For our environment, for our agriculture, for our safety. We can no longer survive alone, ” they write.
