The brothers were bitten by the so-called “Black widow”. The spider, which is mainly found in the United States and Mexico, can bite viciously. The spider’s venom can have physical effects ranging from sweating to paralysis. In a number of cases, a victim died after the spider’s bite.
According to El Diario, the trio got bitten on May 14. The boys were helping their mother when she briefly disappeared from view. The three then discovered the black spider and decided to bite. They challenged the spider by pricking it with a stick, Bolivian authorities reported.
To the hospital
After the three were bitten by the spider, they cried. Their mother came back to see what was going on and took the boys to a local medical center. According to Telemundo, the boys had symptoms such as muscle pain, sweating, fever and shivering.
The boys were taken to the children’s hospital in La Paz the next day, where they were successfully treated. Finally, they were released from the hospital on May 20.
The Bolivian authorities have used the story to warn parents: “For children, everything is real, even movies are real.”
