The service union Verdi wants in the tariff conflict with the online retailer Amazon, which has been going on for over seven years do not let go. This Monday and Tuesday, Verdi has called on employees at six locations of the mail order group to take work stoppages, as the union announced on Sunday.

The union calls for the conclusion of a “Good and healthy work” collective agreement to guarantee the health and safety of workers. Verdi also requires recognition of regional collective agreements for retail and mail order companies.

According to Verdi, the work stoppages planned in Leipzig, Bad Hersfeld (with two locations), Rheinberg, Werne and Koblenz (Kobern-Gondorf) should start on Monday night shift and last at least 48 hours.

Amazon had been calm in previous union actions and calls for strikes. A spokesman had emphasized in the past that Amazon is a fair and responsible employer even without a collective agreement. Nationwide, Amazon has 13 logistics locations with around 13,000 permanent employees./sl/DP/jha
